Backspace does not delete the highlighted text in Word 2003

In Word 2003, if you highlight some text and press the Backspace key then instead of deleting the text, the cursor simply moves to the start of the highlighted block. You can change this behavior to make the text get deleted by hitting the Backspace key. Perform the following steps to do so.

1. Open Microsoft Word 2003.
2. Click Tools and click on Options.
3. From the Options dialog box that opens, click on the Edit tab.
4. Under Editing options, click to place a check mark to Typing replaces selection.
5. Click OK.

Now, try highlighting some text and delete it using the Backspace key.
